The Restaurant
What kind of restaurant is Gooseberry?
Gooseberry is a French restaurant in Bingin, Uluwatu. Our kitchen cooks classic French cuisine with traditional technique and premium ingredients, served in an elegant and intimate setting.
You will find foie gras, La Soupe à l’Oignon, Bœuf Bourguignon, cassoulet and dry-aged beef on the menu, with bread and pâtisserie made every day in our own atelier.
What is the setting like?
Gooseberry is set in a garden, with a terrace beside the pool and an air-conditioned dining room inside. You are welcome to choose either when you book.
The atmosphere is calm and unhurried. At dinner, each table is welcomed with an amuse-bouche from the chef and a selection of breads from our atelier.
I have seen photos online of dishes that are not on your menu. Why?
Gooseberry has evolved over the years into the French restaurant it is today, and some older photos and reviews online show dishes we no longer serve.
The menus on this website are always the current ones, with current prices.

Our French Cuisine
Which French classics are on the menu?
Our menu brings together classics from several regions of France: Bœuf Bourguignon from Burgundy, Cassoulet de Canard Confit & Saucisse de Toulouse from the South-West, La Tartiflette Savoyarde and Cordon Bleu de Volaille from Savoie, and La Soupe à l’Oignon from Paris.
To start, we serve foie gras two ways: La Terrine de Foie Gras with warm brioche, and Foie Gras Poêlé with a Tatin d’Échalotes.
Do you serve fish and seafood?
Yes. To start: Noix de Saint-Jacques Crues with citrus and truffle, Crabe Bleu with Betterave & Granny Smith, and our Niçoise with raw marinated tuna.
As a main course: Filet d’Escolar en Papillote, Thon Grillé with Sauce au Poivre, and Vol-au-Vent de Saumon.
Tell me about your beef and dry-aging.
We have our own dry-aging chamber in the restaurant, where prime cuts are aged on site for 14 days or more. Our Prime Beef Cuts are priced by weight and include Wagyu ribeye and striploin, Côte de Bœuf, a tomahawk to share and T-Bone de Black Angus.
We also serve two classic French butcher’s cuts in Australian Wagyu: Onglet Classique (hanger steak) and Macreuse de Bœuf (shoulder). You are welcome to visit the dry-aging room during your visit; simply ask our team.
How is the beef cooked and served?
Each cut is grilled, rested and sliced before it reaches your table, and served with one garnish and one sauce of your choice.
We recommend medium rare for the best tenderness and flavour. Higher cooking temperatures are possible and can take up to 40 minutes.
Is your bread and pâtisserie made in-house?
Yes. Everything is made from scratch each day at L’Atelier, our pâtisserie atelier, by our Chef Pâtissière: brioche, French baguettes and pâtisserie.
Our desserts are French classics, including Île Flottante, Chou à la Chantilly, Pomme Tatin Gooseberry and Café Gourmand.
